Doxology: How Worship Works
“Everybody worships. It may be stuff, sports, or Shiva; but everybody worships something. When God formed man from dust he breathed into his soul a longing for a greater glory, the innate need to love, serve, honor, and adore something beyond the narrow confines of his own horizon. We are worshipers by nature, always looking above ourselves for a target worthy of our devotion.”
With these words, Nicolas Alford begins a systematic yet accessible study of how worship works. Focusing especially on the church— the epicenter of worship on earth— Alford calls Christians to put God’s desires in worship above their own, and in so doing, find the glory of what worship is all about.
