Hear from Pastor Brian Borgman in this article titled Trembling Joy: Emotional Paradox in the Christian Life

"This little book is not a thorough commentary of Psalm 119, but rather a devotional commentary. I intentionally kept the chapters short and included applications at the end. These are meditations and thus this little book could serve as a weekday devotional, or for personal or family devotions. It could also be used in small groups or Sunday school classes, with the applications being discussion starters. However the book is used, it is my prayer that God would be glorified as He strengthens His people through His word.

Psalm 119 is a feast in the Word of God. It is the longest Psalm and the most prolonged, powerful expression of delight and joy in the Word. It is a Psalm of worship and praise and thanksgiving for the Word."

—from the Introduction

"From the outset, An Exile's Guide to Walking with God: Meditations on Psalm 119 by Brian Borgman is exactly what it claims to be—a practical guide to the study of Psalm 119.

Throughout the book, Dr. Borgman simply expounds the text and lets the Psalm speak for itself. Many commentaries on Psalm 119 are so exhaustive that the text and the reader are lost in seemingly endless exposition, but Dr. Borgman has hit the Goldilocks zone—not too little, not too much, just right. As a result, the text always stays front and center.

As I read through this work, I had the sense that I was being counseled from the Word by an expert scribe (Matthew 13:52) who is also a fellow pilgrim in need of grace. I have greatly benefited from reading this manuscript and I heartily recommend it for personal study and devotion, Sunday school classes, or small groups.

Finally, Dr. Borgman's commitment to offering the reader exegetical precision and profound application in a brevity of words is an example worthy of imitation by all who seek to edify God's people through preaching and teaching."

“In this very practical study of Psalm 119, Brian Borgman shows us the treasure we have in God’s Word and leaves us thanking God for it.”

Conrad Mbewe

"This is a sweet devotional book on a richly experiential psalm."
