Description
In a world where Christmas is often reduced to twinkling lights and fleeting sentiments, The Gospel According to Christmas is a clarion call to rediscover the holiday’s true heartbeat: the gospel of Jesus Christ. With pastoral warmth, Allen Nelson IV guides readers through 1 Peter 2:24 to unveil the staggering reality of Christ’s incarnation and sacrifice. This book is not just for December—it is a year-round invitation to marvel at the sin-bearer who became a curse for us, to rest in His finished work, and to live boldly for His glory. Whether you are a weary believer needing encouragement or a seeker longing for hope, this book will point you to the only Savior who is enough. Read it, share it, and let it rekindle your love for the Christ of Christmas. Reflection questions in each chapter make this book a perfect fit for group study or family devotions.

Allen Nelson’s book, The Gospel According to Christmas, is a battering ram to human pride and the pagan notions that have subtly crept into the church. This timely gift shines the light of the biblical gospel through the glorious lens of 1 Peter 2:24 by pointing readers to Jesus, who came to pay the price on the cross for sinners, and rise triumphantly from the grave on the third day.

We are among the blessed few to have the marked privilege of calling Allen S. Nelson IV, aka Cuatro, one of our Pastors. He is also our friend. But most importantly, he is the person from whom we hear the Gospel proclaimed most frequently. Never have we encountered the seeping permeation of the Gospel stronger and deeper than we do in our precious little Church. We hear it in song, in Scripture, in recitation, at every single meeting and always, without fail, in his preaching. That may seem like a small thing or a thing that is assumed or a thing that is expected, but we have learned that it is inexplicably rare. We have indeed come to expect it and we try not to ever take it completely for granted. Cuatro is obsessed with three things other than his wonderful wife… Christmas, the Gospel and the local Church. It makes perfect sense that he has written this book. It was a joy to read and meditate on. The only flaw we see is that it is not quite long enough. After all… Más Christ!

Allen Nelson has given us a wonderful gift for Christmas: a book about the greatest gift of all. The miracle of all miracles is that over two thousand years ago in the little town of Bethlehem, God the Son took on flesh, lived among us, died for His beloved sinful people, and rose from the dead having accomplished their complete redemption. Nelson’s book focuses us on the end, or goal, of Christ’s incarnation, which is His death. While some sentimentalize Christmas, making it exclusively about the baby in a manger, Jesus was born “the lamb of God.” He was born to die for His people, to claim a bride for Himself and to bring us back to God. I highly commend this marvelous volume. Any who read it will greatly benefit from careful reflection and meditation on the truths presented here.

Early in his introduction, Pastor Nelson tells the reader that the main theme of this work is "recovering the gospel of Christmas, which is the gospel of Christ Himself." Yes, and amen! The Christmas season is a beautiful and delightful time of the year, when we intentionally focus on the advent and incarnation of Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior. Despite this, it is still entirely possible to lose sight of the gospel. By focusing on 1 Peter 2:24, Pastor Nelson helps us to remember that the good news of Christmas is Christ Himself. On top of all that - to quote Buddy the Elf - "it's just nice to meet another human that shares my affinity for Christmas."
